For any SEO strategy, link building is going to be one of the most important components. Because links provide a path for search engine crawlers to move from one piece of content to the next, you need to have a strong web of links on your website and pushing back to your website from other sites as well.

But links can be one of the most difficult parts of an SEO strategy. Because they are not in your control, you need to rely on your connections and relationships to get links that push back to your company website.

Here are just a few of the link building options that local companies should take advantage of.
1. Local directories.

Local directories are one of the best ways to get links back to your website. Reach out to local directories and ask to have your business listed. Depending on the industry you are in, there may be niche-specific directories to reach out to as well.
2. Chamber of Commerce

Like local directories, you probably won’t need to do much to have your business listed on a Chamber of Commerce website. Send your local Chamber of Commerce an e-mail or give them a phone call and ask to have your business included on their featured companies. Because these are widely trusted pages, you could see a lot of traffic from this link.
3. Sponsor events.

Cities and towns of any size hold charity events that usually have websites, social media pages, and more. Connect with a local charity or non-profit looking to host an event and offer to sponsor. That way, every time the event is mentioned in the press, your name will be mentioned as well – providing you with quality backlinks.
4. Press mentions.

When the press mentions a company in an online article, they will include a link back to that business’s site. Reach out to local news providers and see if they are working on any stories you may be able to comment on or even ask if they would be willing to do a story on you or your company.
5. Attend trade shows.

Local events, such as trade shows, are another great way to get recognition for your brand while also getting a link back to your site. With each trade show you attend, your business information will be featured on the trade show’s websites.
6. Guest post.

Are there local bloggers in your area that may allow you to write a post to be featured on their website? Guest blogging is great way to get your content in front of your target audience while also providing a link back to your site.
7. Sponsor a team.

Local children’s teams are always looking for sponsors. If you want to get your name out there and get more links back to your website, consider being a sponsor for a little league team.
8. Awards.

Just about every local area gives awards. The winners of those awards are then featured on a website, in the news, and various other online locations. To get more links to your site, apply for some of those awards.
9. Social media.

Social media is a great way to bring links to your site. With each share that you get, another link to your page is created. Be active with your community on social media to get more backlinks.
10. Local figures.

Do you have any relationships with local figures in your area? Reach out to them and see if they are willing to put a link to your page on their website.

Link building doesn’t need to be difficult, especially for local businesses. With these ten strategies, you can be on your way to developing a strong web of links to and from your website.
