10 Tips For An Awesome, Local SEO-Friendly Blog Post

Blogging is a cornerstone marketing tactic used by business to grow their online presence and attract new customers. However, it can also help businesses achieve higher local search rankings. To achieve higher local search rankings for your business, follow these tips when creating new blog posts.

#1) Unique, High-Quality Content

Quality counts when publishing blog posts. A single high-quality post is far more valuable than dozens or even hundreds of low-quality posts consisting mainly of filler content.

#2) Make It Mobile Friendly

Statistics show that more than half of all searches performed on mobile devices have local intent, so make sure your blog post is accessible on smartphones and tablets. You can use Google’s online tool here to see if your blog is mobile friendly.

#3) Include Local Information

For local SEO purposes, try to include geographic identifiers of your business — address, city, ZIP code, phone number, etc. — in your blog posts. You shouldn’t force them into your posts but, rather, integrate them naturally. Search engines will see this information, using it to rank your blog for relevant local searches.

#4) Handle Duplicate Content

When you publish a new post, it may appear on multiple places like the post URL, category, author and tag pages. To prevent indexing, you should block search engines from crawling all pages except for the actual post URL. This can be done by modifying your blog’s robots.txt file with the disallow agent or by downloading a plugin like Yoast.

#5) Display Contact Information

At the bottom of your post, include your business’s contact information. You can even make this a universal element of your blog’s template or theme. If a visitor wants to learn more about your business after reading the post, he or she can find your phone number or contact form listed here.

#6) Create a Link to GMB Listing

Hopefully, you already have a Google My Business (GMB) listing for your business. If so, include a link to your listing in your new post. This will funnel visitors from your blog to GMB, which may help to increase your blog’s local search ranking.

#7) Include Local Keywords in Title

One of the most important SEO factors of any new web page, including blog posts, is the title tag. This is the headline that search engines use for indexed listings. If you want to rank for local keywords, try to include those local keywords in the title tags of your blog posts.

#8) Add Photos

Photos will complement the text of your blog posts, making them more appealing to visitors. Regardless of what your post is about, you should include at least one relevant photo or image. After all, how many text-only web pages do you see dominating the search results?

#9) Optimize Photos for Local SEO

You can further improve the SEO of your blog posts by optimizing its photos. For local SEO, edit your images’ data to include the geographic location of your business. This is done using a special editing tool like GeoSetter.

#10) Add Local Keywords to Meta Description

While not as important as the title tag, meta descriptions can affect your blog’s search ranking. If you want to rank for local searches, try to include them in the meta description of your posts.

Even with these tips, you should still get into the habit of publishing new blog posts on a regular basis. Without fresh content, there’s no reason for search engines or visitors to return to your blog.
