Local SEO is of the utmost importance to ensure that you are found. Your LinkedIn profile is a great marketing tool. While you might be using it to make connections within your industry, it is also a way for people to locate you and your business.

There are several different ways for you to focus on local search engine optimization within your profile.

Add Keywords to the Profile
If you are going to go through all of the trouble of writing a profile description, you need to make sure that you are using keywords. These are the same keywords that you would target on your website. They might include the region where your business is located. Whether it’s the city, community, town, or County, it’s important to pair with your keywords from time to time.

Don’t Get Fancy on Job Titles
While you might have a relatively fancy job title, LinkedIn is not the time to use it. Instead, you want to use standard job titles because it will make it easier for people to find you and understand what it is that you do. For example, “editor extraordinaire” sounds more exciting, though the reality is that “editor” or “proofreader” is what will help you to be located with greater frequency because that is how people are going to search for you.

Promote Your Profile
When you are trying to improve your local SEO, it pays to promote your profile on other social media platforms as well as on other websites. This will help to drive more traffic to your LinkedIn profile and give you a much-needed backlink when it comes to search engine optimization.

You might want to share your profile on your “About Us” page of your website, on Facebook, as well as on various industry directories.

Post Articles to Your Profile
You have the opportunity to post articles to your profile. This is something that became available several years ago and can be used similarly to a blog. The benefit is that you can fill your articles with keywords and then publish them so that all of your connections will be able to read up on what you have posted most recently.

Collect Endorsements
It’s yet to be determined if endorsements affect your rankings, though it certainly can’t hurt. It will allow you to stay better connected within your network and add value to your profile. You will want to take a good look at the number of endorsements that you have and see about adding endorsements in other areas where you have strength.

Use Anchor Texts
Many people are completely unaware of the fact that it’s possible to include up to three links with anchor text. This allows you to include your company website, blog, and another website that you want to promote – whether it is another social media platform, a landing page, or anything else. These will also give you more backlinks to strengthen your overall visibility in search engines.

Make Your Profile Visible
Finally, you want to make sure your profile is public. While this might sound obvious, many people make their profiles visible only to their connections – and this can be problematic when you are trying to boost SEO efforts. This is something that you can quickly change by going into “Edit Your Public Profile” under Settings.
