Many small businesses may believe that SEO is reserved for the large corporations that operate all over the world. Rather than relying on the internet to bring in new customers, these companies may believe word of mouth is enough to keep new customers walking through the doors. But while that may be the case for some businesses and companies, most will find that even a basic implementation of local SEO strategies can increase business.

Here are some basic local SEO tips and tricks that small companies can begin using:

1. Claim Your Google My Business Page

If you haven’t already, you’ll want to claim your Google My Business page. The Google My Business page displays all the relevant information someone may be looking for when they search for your products or services. This includes your hours of operation, where your business is located, and the price range of items you provide. Your Google My Business page can also be a great place for customers to leave reviews of their experience.

The most important part of your Google My Business page is that it will always be the first kind of results displayed when someone does a local search. Regardless of the SEO strategies of websites that meet the search criteria, Google will display a few My Business pages that fit the results. If your page is not claimed and updated, you won’t appear in these results.

2. Get Reviews

Google determines which My Business page to push to the front of the line by the amount of information put on the page, including the number of reviews that are provided. If the company has a ton of great reviews, Google will move it higher on the results list. If the reviews are bad, then the search engine will hide it towards the bottom.

As your customers to leave a review of their experience with you on your Google My Business page. Without even doing anything yourself, this can help boost your chances of appearing within the first set of My Business results. As we mentioned before, in a local search, the best My Business pages will always be among the first things the searcher will see.

3. Keep Information Updated

These days, all companies should have a website and social media pages. While they do not need to have the intense social media strategies that large companies may have, small businesses should still frequently put up posts and keep their information updated.

The biggest problems a local small business will have is if they move locations, phone numbers, or change their business hours without reflecting those changes on their website or social media pages. There is nothing worse than a potential customer believing they are coming in to make a purchase only to find that you are no longer in business or that you’ve moved to an entirely new area. Make the simple change online and save everyone the headache.

Implementing a local SEO strategy doesn’t need to be difficult. While it is true that the more time you spend on your SEO, the better results you will have, it is still important to at least cover all the bases. For small companies without the budget or accessibility to a marketing department, keeping up with the changing times and algorithms may seem like a hassle, but if you want to continue growing, making new connections, and serving new customers, you’ll want to use at least a little SEO.
