Web Design with Local SEO in Mind

In order to maximize your search engine ranking, you must learn to master to of the most important concepts in the new age of search engine optimization – how to bolster your local search engine ranking and how to design your website to manifest your search index profile. Here is how to design your website with local search engine optimization in mind.

First of all, make the basis of your website localized keywords.

From the URL all the way to the site copy, make sure that you have localized and longtail keywords instead of generic, short keywords. This will help the major search engines to see your website as one that is focused on a particular area. Do not worry that this will limit your visibility to the world – the major search engines are geared to push forward websites that do well on a local level. This push may take some time, but rest assured that it will happen.

Second, do not design your website for the major search engines specifically.

The one thing that you can count on is that the major search engines will begin to crawl websites like a human visitor would see them. This means that you should not try to implement any short-term tricks when you are optimizing your website. Make sure that your website appeals to the target market that you have in mind so that when they actually engage your website online, they will create a high click through rate for you. The statistics are the markers that will trigger the major search engines to trust your site more.

Third, make sure that you utilize tags.

In order to bolster your keyword recognition by the major search engines, you can use the various tags that are available to you in any basic word or web processing program. Keep in mind that these tags will also help your text to be more readable to the average visitor. This is actually the more important aspect of why you are using them. Make sure that you connect your links to the words that stand out so that they are more likely to be clicked by the people who visit your website. This actually leads quite well into the next tip.

Fourth, be sure that your link building strategy coincides with your tag strategy.

Words that are naturally emboldened or italicized on a website are more likely to be seen and interacted with by your site visitors. Naturally, you will want to put important links on these words so that the click through rate of these pages will increase. You can have these links focus on an internal or external strategy. If it focuses on external strategy, make sure that the links are pointing to pages with a high Google PageRank.

In order to maximize your local search engine optimization strategy, you may want to implement this link and tag strategy on your localized keywords. People will be happy to see that you are celebrating local culture, and they will be much more likely to click through to the links that you have provided them. If one of these links is a sales page, then you should likely prepare for a higher conversion rate!

Fifth, turn PDFs into actual copy and Flash into multimedia content that can be indexed.

It is surprising how many websites still use PDF and Flash as viable sources of content. Neither of these formats can be read by the major search engines, and the ability to be easily indexed is what you want. Make sure that any localized content that you have such as news reports are placed on your website as HTML copy rather than simply posting the PDF of the press release. This will help you to get search engine optimization credit out of any positive public relations that you do in the real world.
