Why Your Blog Needs Local SEO

If you have a problem or question in today’s world you can simply sit down at your computer and type in your issue into a search engine. What pops up will be a result of various algorithms set up by the search engines. A lot of this comes down to how the various websites set up their sites themselves. One factor that separates one site from another is something known as local SEO.

SEO simply stands for “”search engine optimization”” and is a series of techniques that one may use in order to better their ranking on search engine results. One of the techniques is to localize the results for someone who is searching for a specific thing in a specific area.

Imagine the scenario where someone is looking for a dentist in their area. They cannot simply type in dentist to the search engine and find what they need. Rather, they might type the name of their town after the word dentist in order to find more relevant results. For example, their search phrase might be “”dentist in Cleveland””. This would provide them with results for dentists who are in that area.

Now, if you are the dentist in the Cleveland area who wants to attract more business via websites searches, then you will first want to set up a blog which people can travel to and which you can link back to on your business website. This will help with building backlinks to your website which may boost its ratings immediately.

Regardless of what industry you are in or what you are trying to sell you will want to consider how to make your blog as effective as possible. Again, no matter what it is that you want to sell you want to make sure that you are not being overly promotional about it. Yes, you want to try to encourage people to buy what you are selling, but you do not want to act as though you are being overly pushy about it. People will immediately back away from you and unsubscribe if you are always trying to push things on them.

Blogs are something that take a while to build a following. Someone has to come across your blog and then decide that it is something that is worthwhile reading for them. In order for this to happen you probably need to post pretty frequently and about interesting topics. At the same time, you will want to keep the posts relatively short as you want the readers to engage with them and actually read them all the way through. Some companies do this with great keywords that are local to their area.

Bare in mind that your blog will have some cap to how many readers it can attract. This is because you are tailoring it to a local area. If you are sincere about keeping it local then people can tell. They can also tell if you are trying to squeeze in a “”one size fits all”” type blog on them but make it look localized. They will sniff that out immediately and probably quit reading it very quickly.

The bottom line for using local SEO in your blogging is that you have have to be genuine and specific for it to work. If you do manage both of those objectives then you can pretty well count on a large audience over time. Try to skimp out on either one though and you probably would have been better off never writing a blog to begin with. Don’t waste your time and the time of your readers, just make your blog relevant right from the start.
